Devotees Perform Shraddh at Barricaded Mumbai Banganga Tank

Hundreds of people visited Banganga Tank in Mumbai to remember their ancestors.

They performed Shraddh rituals on the last day of Pitru Paksha.

The tank itself was blocked off after many fish were found dead earlier in October.

Reports said low oxygen in the water may have contributed to the deaths.

Ritual offerings and pollution were cited as possible causes.

The city installed 10 artificial tanks so people could make offerings without entering the main tank.

Taps were also provided for people who wanted to bathe.

Six pumps were set up to add oxygen to the water.

Officials and religious leaders had discussed how to protect the tank while allowing people to observe their traditions.
