NCB Detains Alleged Drug Trafficker Navin Chichkar Under PITNDPS Act
Some grown-ups in Mumbai found out about a man named Navin Chichkar.
They say he was part of a group that brings illegal drugs into India.
Chichkar is accused of working with people in the USA and Thailand to get these drugs.
He ran away from India in 2021 after the police started investigating him.
Police in other countries helped find him after an international alert was put out.
A special law called PITNDPS lets the government keep such people in prison, even before a court proves they did something wrong.
Because of this law, Chichkar was moved to a prison in Chennai and will stay there for one year.
The government also froze his money and property worth more than 10 crore rupees.
The police say they did all this to stop drugs from hurting people.
Now Chichkar will stay in jail while the government checks his case.
NCB Mumbai preventively detained Navin Gurunath Chichkar under the PITNDPS Act over alleged links to transnational narcotics trafficking networks.
Chichkar, wanted in four NDPS cases, fled India in 2021 and allegedly operated his drug network from Thailand with links to international suppliers.
He was transferred from Yerwada Central Jail, Pune, to Puzhal Central Prison, Chennai, on June 16 following a detention order dated May 15.
The State Advisory Board of Tamil Nadu confirmed his one-year preventive detention on August 13.
NCB froze assets worth more than Rs 10 crores allegedly acquired through illicit drug trafficking, a move confirmed by SAFEMA-Mumbai.
