Nepal Observes National Mourning After Deadly Rasuwa Floods

Nepal held a national day of mourning for people killed in major floods.

The mourning took place 13 days after the floods began on August 26.

The floods followed an ice-rock avalanche in the high Himalayas.

Police said 1,353 bodies had been recovered and 3,992 people were still out of contact.

Earlier reports gave slightly different figures for deaths and missing people.

Many families lost their homes, and about 32,000 families were displaced.

Rescue teams are still searching rivers, communities and hydropower tunnels.

Some people have been rescued alive, including workers at two hydropower projects.

The government and Prime Minister Balendra Shah said they would support affected people.
