US Presents Gaza Stabilization Force Plan to UNSC Amidst Regional Talks
The United States is going to show other countries at the United Nations a plan for a special group of soldiers to help keep peace in Gaza.
This plan, from President Trump, would have these soldiers stay for at least two years.
They would help protect people, train new police, and make sure weapons are taken away from groups that are not governments.
Some countries from the Middle East are joining the US to show they support this idea.
Meanwhile, a top spy from Turkey met with leaders from Hamas in a different city.
They talked about what to do next to make a pause in fighting in Gaza work better.
This is because a previous deal for swapping prisoners and stopping fighting has not fully worked out, with both sides having problems.
The US will present a draft UN Security Council resolution for an international stabilization force in Gaza with a mandate of at least two years.
The proposed force aims to protect civilians, train a new Palestinian police force, demilitarize Gaza, and decommission weapons from non-state armed groups.
Representatives from Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE will join the US in presenting the resolution to the UNSC.
Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin met with Hamas negotiating team head Khalil Al-Hayya in Istanbul to discuss the next phases of a Gaza ceasefire plan.
The first phase of a Gaza ceasefire deal, which involved prisoner exchanges and partial Israeli withdrawal, is facing issues with Hamas failing to return all hostage remains and ceasefire violations.
