India Plans ₹13,000 Crore Battery Component Incentive Push

India Plans ₹13,000 Crore Battery Component Incentive Push

India wants to make more of the parts used in batteries at home.

The government may offer ₹13,000 crore to help companies build these parts.

The parts include materials inside batteries, liquid electrolytes, separator film and copper foil.

Many Indian battery makers currently buy these parts from China.

India considers this dependence a risk for its economy and energy security.

The new plan would add to an existing programme supporting large battery-cell factories.

Some companies in that programme have been delayed because important equipment and parts were not available.

The goal is to build a stronger Indian battery industry for electric vehicles and energy storage.
