Thailand Approves Nuzolvence for Gonorrhoea Treatment
Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership (GARDP) have received approval from the Thai FDA for a new antibiotic called Nuzolvence.
This drug is used to treat a common sexually transmitted infection called gonorrhoea.
The approval is important because gonorrhoea is becoming harder to treat with existing antibiotics due to resistance.
The drug was developed through a partnership and has undergone rigorous testing, including a successful clinical trial.
This approval makes Thailand the second country to allow the use of Nuzolvence, following the United States.
The drug is expected to be a significant step in fighting antimicrobial resistance and making new antibiotics available globally.
Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and GARDP received Thai FDA approval for Nuzolvence (zoliflodacin) to treat uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhoea.
The approval follows a priority review submission and a successful phase 3 clinical trial.
Nuzolvence is indicated for adults and paediatric patients 12 years and older, weighing at least 35 kg.
Thailand is the second country to approve the drug, following the United States.
The approval is significant due to the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
