Jantar Mantar Assault Accused Swatantra Bhardwaj Arrested

Police in Delhi arrested Swatantra Bhardwaj over an alleged assault at Jantar Mantar.

The incident happened during protests in July.

Bhardwaj was accused of saying that he had seriously injured a student protester’s father.

Police detained him at his home in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

This happened on Friday afternoon.

Police said he had returned to Bulandshahr that morning.

They said he feared more backlash over comments made on a video podcast.

A political group had protested outside a Delhi police station the day before.

The court sent Bhardwaj to police custody for one day.
