Maharashtra: Tribal Funds Allocated to Ladki Bahin Scheme
The Maharashtra government is using funds from the tribal welfare department for its Ladki Bahin scheme, which gives money to underprivileged women.
Some people are worried this might be taking away money meant for tribals.
However, the government says this isn't a diversion and that the funds are allocated under different budget categories.
They are separate budgets for Ladki Bahin, tribal welfare, and social welfare schemes.
Officials state that money is allocated across departments for specific groups like Scheduled Castes and Tribes.
Last month, the social welfare minister also raised concerns over funds being used from his department for the same scheme, but officials clarified it was an allocation.
Rs 335.7 crore was allocated from the tribal welfare department to the Ladki Bahin scheme.
The Ladki Bahin scheme provides a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 for underprivileged women.
Questions have arisen about whether funds meant for tribals are being diverted.
The government maintains that the funds are allocated under different budget heads and there is no diversion.
The state revenue minister denied that tribal development funds were being transferred for the scheme.
