TNAU Patents Eco-Friendly Zinc Fertilizer
Scientists at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University have created a special kind of zinc fertilizer that is good for the environment.
This new fertilizer uses a natural substance called exopolysaccharide (EPS) to help plants absorb zinc better.
The researchers found that this new fertilizer helps plants grow bigger and produce more food compared to the old kind of zinc fertilizer.
The government of India has given them a special patent for this invention, which means they are the only ones who can make and sell it for a while.
This new fertilizer is made from a special bacteria found in rice fields, and it breaks down naturally, making it a greener choice for farmers.
TNAU received a patent for an eco-friendly zinc fertiliser using exopolysaccharide (EPS).
The fertiliser, Zn-EPS, contains 16.8% zinc and is biodegradable.
Field trials showed improved plant growth and yield compared to conventional zinc sulphate.
The patent was coordinated by TNAU’s Patent Cell under D Suresh Kumar.
The innovation offers a sustainable solution for nutrient management in agriculture.
