Toddler and Elderly Man Killed in Wildlife Attacks Near Lansdowne
In two separate incidents near Lansdowne in Uttarakhand, a leopard snatched a one-and-a-half-year-old girl from her mother's lap and killed her, while an elephant trampled a 70-year-old man to death.
The girl was playing in the courtyard of her house when the leopard attacked, and despite the quick response from family and villagers, she was found dead in the bushes nearby.
The elderly man was collecting dry wood in the forest when a wild elephant appeared, causing everyone to run.
The man fell and was trampled to death.
The Forest Department has been deployed to the area to address the wildlife threats.
A one-and-a-half-year-old girl, Yashika, was snatched by a leopard from her mother's lap in Barswar village, Jaiharikhal, and later found dead in the bushes.
The incident happened quickly, and despite the mother's alarm, the girl was declared dead at Lansdowne Hospital.
A 70-year-old man, Brijmohan Singh, was trampled to death by an elephant in the Sukhro beat of the Kotdwar range while collecting dry wood.
The Forest Department and police recovered Singh's body and have deployed a team in the area to address wildlife threats.
Both incidents occurred within 24 hours in the Lansdowne area of Pauri district, Uttarakhand.
