India's Birth Rate Declines, Raising Concerns About Demographic Dividend
India's birth rate is going down for the first time in 50 years.
This means fewer babies are being born each year.
The overall birth rate has dropped, and the average number of children a woman has is also decreasing.
Some states, like Bihar, still have high birth rates, while others, like Delhi, have very low birth rates.
This could mean that India's large young population, or demographic dividend, might become less significant in the future.
India's Crude Birth Rate (CBR) decreased from 19.1 in 2022 to 18.4 in 2023.
The Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in 2023 was 1.9, down from 2.0 in the previous two years.
Bihar had the highest CBR at 25.8.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands had the lowest CBR at 10.1.
The Gross Reproduction Rate (GRR) for 2023 was 0.9.
