ADB Grants $1B Loan to Boost India's Urban Reforms
The Asian Development Bank gave India a $1 billion loan to help make its cities better.
The money will be used for a program that helps city governments plan and build things like roads, parks, and better services.
It also helps cities get money from the market, like selling bonds.
The bank will give $3 million to help the government use the loan.
Cities in India make most of the new jobs and a big part of the country’s economy, and the plan hopes to make that share even bigger by 2030.
ADB approved a $1 billion loan to support India’s urban reform agenda.
The loan backs the Urban Transformation and Investment Program, linked to the Urban Challenge Fund.
The program aims to strengthen institutions, improve planning, and expand market‑based financing via municipal bonds.
ADB will provide $3 million in technical assistance and promote digital governance tools.
Cities currently generate ~70% of new jobs and 63% of GDP, projected to rise to 75% by 2030.
