Australia Expands Teen Social Media Ban to Include Reddit and Kick
Imagine Australia wants to help kids under 16 stay safer online.
They already told some popular apps like TikTok and Facebook that kids can't use them.
Now, they are adding even more apps like Reddit and a video app called Kick to this list.
If these companies don't do a good job of blocking the younger kids, they could get a very big fine.
The rules aren't set in stone because new apps are always popping up or changing.
So, Australia's online safety group will keep watching and may add or remove apps from the list as needed.
They want to make sure kids are protected on as many social apps as possible.
Australia's internet watchdog has expanded its ban on social media for teens under 16 to include Reddit and Kick.
Social media firms face fines of up to A$49.5 million if they fail to block users under 16.
The new law will be effective from December 10.
The list of banned platforms is not static and will be updated as new services emerge or existing ones change their primary function.
Several platforms, including Discord, GitHub, and YouTube Kids, were specifically excluded from the age-restricted criteria.
