Indian States Activate Helplines After Deadly Nepal Floods

A sudden flood hit Nepal near the Bhotekoshi River on Wednesday.

It damaged homes, roads, bridges, vehicles and other important structures.

Reports said at least 157 people died and about 400 were missing.

One related headline mentioned a higher death toll of 162, so the numbers may still be changing.

India’s embassy and several Indian states opened phone lines to help people who may be stranded or missing.

Families can share details such as passport numbers, travel plans and last known locations.

The embassy’s numbers can also receive WhatsApp messages.

Authorities have warned that more flooding may be possible because of blockages upstream.
