Mumbai Metro One Launches Digital Passes On WhatsApp For Commuters

People ride a big train called the Metro in Mumbai, a city in India.

The company that runs one part of it, Mumbai Metro One, made a new way to buy train passes.

Instead of a plastic card, you can use WhatsApp, a messaging app on your phone.

You send the word 'Hi' to a special phone number, then choose the pass you want.

You pay with your phone, and your pass is stored digitally on your smartphone.

You can even put it in Google Wallet or Apple Wallet, like a digital pocket for tickets.

There are two types of passes: one for a set number of trips and one where money is automatically taken for each ride.

The second type lets you add more money later when the balance runs low.

This means commuters do not have to queue at ticket counters or carry physical cards.

The Metro line has been running for 12 years and has carried more than 125 crore passengers, which is a very big number of rides.
