Bihar Elections: More Women Voters, Fewer Elected
More women are voting in Bihar than men, but fewer women are actually getting elected to the government.
This has been happening for several elections.
Parties often don't pick many women to run, and when they do, they sometimes choose people who are already in the government.
The current government has made some plans to help women, like providing money for women-run businesses, but other parties are also promising similar support to try and get votes from women.
Women's voter turnout has been higher than men's in the past three Bihar elections.
Women's representation in the Bihar Assembly remains low despite increased voter turnout.
In 2020, 26 women were elected out of 370 candidates.
Political parties' reluctance to nominate women is a factor in their underrepresentation.
Upcoming elections will have 34 women candidates from the NDA and 30 from the Mahagathbandhan.
