India Wins Chess Olympiad Silver, Bronze and Retains Trophy

India had a very strong finish at the Chess Olympiad.

Its Open team won the silver medal.

The women’s team won the bronze medal.

India’s Open team drew with Hungary in its last match, while Uzbekistan won the gold medal.

In the women’s event, China finished first and Kazakhstan finished second.

India’s combined results were good enough to retain the Nona Gaprindashvili Trophy.

This was the third Olympiad in a row in which India won that trophy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the players and said their success could encourage more children to play chess.
