India Weighs Annual Dope Tests After Air India Incident

India Weighs Annual Dope Tests After Air India Incident

India is thinking about testing every commercial pilot for drugs at least once a year.

The tests would happen at random times.

Currently, only 10% of pilots across the whole pilot network must be tested.

The discussion began after an Air India plane suddenly dropped 300 feet during a flight.

Twenty passengers and four crew members were hurt, but the plane landed safely.

Reports differed in how they described the captain's test result, saying he allegedly failed or tested positive for marijuana.

A maintenance report also reportedly showed warnings involving the plane's systems.

Officials are studying how to improve safety without disrupting airline operations.
