Tamil Nadu Will Not Compromise on Cauvery Rights: Minister Anand

Tamil Nadu Will Not Compromise on Cauvery Rights: Minister Anand

The Cauvery is a big river in southern India that flows through two states, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Farmers in Tamil Nadu need the river's water to grow their crops, and it also provides drinking water to many districts.

The Supreme Court of India has said that Karnataka must share a certain amount of water with Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu says it has received only a very small part of that water, creating a big shortage.

Because of the shortage, a large dam called Mettur could not be opened on time for planting.

The leaders of the two states planned to meet to talk about the problem, but Karnataka cancelled the meeting.

So Tamil Nadu asked the Supreme Court for help.

Tamil Nadu is also trying to stop Karnataka from building a new dam called Mekedatu.

The minister said the government will keep fighting to protect the water for its people and farmers.
