Pakistan’s Naqvi Heads to Tehran Amid Escalating West Asia Tensions

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi plans to visit Iran on Sunday.

He is expected to meet senior Iranian officials in Tehran.

Iran says the main purpose is to discuss relations between Pakistan and Iran.

Iranian officials say he is not currently carrying a specific message to mediate between Iran and the United States.

However, Pakistan has been trying to help restart talks between those countries.

The visit happens while fighting involving Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has grown more intense.

This fighting has raised worries about ships and energy supplies moving through nearby waterways.

Pakistan and Iran also want to follow up on earlier agreements.

The visit could still allow regional concerns to be discussed, even though no formal mediation plan has been announced.
