ChatGPT Rolls Out GPT-5.6 Luna, Unlimited Chats and Think Button
ChatGPT is a computer helper that talks with people and answers their questions.
Every week, about one billion people use it.
The company that makes it is called OpenAI.
OpenAI announced that people who use ChatGPT for free can now send as many text messages as they want.
The free version is getting a smarter brain called GPT-5.6 Luna that makes fewer mistakes.
There is also a new Think button that tells ChatGPT to think extra hard about tricky questions.
People who pay for ChatGPT get an even smarter brain called GPT-5.6 Sol.
They also get a little slider to choose how much ChatGPT should think before answering.
Some special features, like making pictures or uploading files, still have limits.
OpenAI is upgrading ChatGPT's default model to GPT-5.6 Luna for Free and Go users, replacing GPT-5.5 Instant.
Free and Go users get unlimited text chats and a new Think button for harder questions, effective next week.
In internal evaluations of financial, medical, and legal prompts, responses with at least one factual error were about 62% less common with GPT-5.6 Luna than with GPT-5.5 Instant.
Plus and Pro subscribers receive an enhanced GPT-5.6 Sol for everyday tasks and a new slider controlling how much ChatGPT thinks.
The update follows ChatGPT reaching 1 billion weekly active users, with CEO Sam Altman announcing it on X.
