Opposition Mounts Against Vijay’s Foreshore Estate Secretariat Plan

Opposition Mounts Against Vijay’s Foreshore Estate Secretariat Plan

Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, Vijay, wants to build a new government headquarters at Foreshore Estate in Chennai.

The plan would include the state Assembly and offices for government officials.

Local fishermen say the project could force them to move and harm their traditional work.

Opposition leader M K Stalin said his party would support the fishermen and organize protests.

Stalin suggested using the Omandurar Government Estate instead.

A political party supporting the government, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), also criticized the plan.

It warned that it might reconsider its support if the government makes decisions without consulting others.

Because of the opposition, Vijay may pause the plan and look for another site.
