Tejpal Challenges Bombay High Court Rape Conviction in Supreme Court

Tarun Tejpal used to lead the magazine Tehelka.

A junior colleague accused him of sexually assaulting her in a hotel elevator in Goa in 2013.

A trial court acquitted him in 2021 because it found the case had not been proved beyond reasonable doubt.

The Bombay High Court later overturned that decision and convicted him.

It sentenced him to 10 years in prison and imposed a fine.

Tejpal has now asked the Supreme Court of India to review the conviction and sentence.

The Goa government has also gone to the Supreme Court of India, but it wants a life sentence instead.

The Supreme Court of India will consider the legal challenges.
