DU Revises Economics, History Electives
The Delhi University committee had a meeting to talk about some new classes for Economics and History students.
Some people didn't like the classes because they thought the topics didn't match the class names.
For example, in the Economics class called 'Economics and Gender,' some people didn't like that it talked about things like violence against women, saying it wasn't about economics.
But others said it was important to talk about these things because they affect women's jobs.
In the History class, some people didn't like that there was too much about world history and not enough about Indian history.
The committee decided to send these classes back to be changed.
Delhi University's Standing Committee on Academic Matters reviewed elective courses for Economics and History departments.
Objections were raised against the 'Economics and Gender' course for including themes like violence against women.
The History department's syllabus was criticized for focusing too much on global history.
Defenders argued that economic costs of violence against women are a valid economic topic and global history is essential.
The committee sent the courses back for revision after objections were raised.
