Andhra Pradesh Drafts BC Protection Bill
The government of Andhra Pradesh is making a new law called the BC Protection Bill.
This law is to protect people from the Backward Classes (BCs) community from being harassed or hurt.
If someone does something bad to a BC, they can go to jail for 6 months to 5 years.
If they do it again, they can go to jail for 1 to 2 years.
The government is also setting up special courts in every district to hear these cases quickly.
These courts will have experienced judges, and cases must be solved within 2 months.
If someone is not happy with the decision, they can go to a higher court within 90 days.
The government is doing this to keep their promise to protect the BC community.
The NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has prepared the draft BC Protection Bill to safeguard the BC community from atrocities.
The bill proposes imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 5 years for first-time offenders and 1-2 years for repeat offenders.
Anticipatory bail will not be allowed in BC atrocity cases.
One special court will be established in every district to hear BC atrocity cases, with experienced judges appointed to oversee them.
Cases must be resolved within 2 months of filing the chargesheet, with an appeal period of 90 days to the High Court, extendable to 180 days.
