8th Pay Commission: Illustrative Basic Pay at Two Fitment Factors

8th Pay Commission: Illustrative Basic Pay at Two Fitment Factors

The 8th Pay Commission is studying how central government employees’ pay might change.

One important number is called the fitment factor.

It is multiplied by a worker’s current basic pay to estimate a new basic-pay amount.

For example, a current basic pay of ₹35,400 would become an estimated ₹1,15,050 with a factor of 3.25.

With a factor of 3.833, the estimate would be ₹1,35,658.

These are examples, not approved salaries.

The government has not chosen a factor yet.

Allowances and the treatment of dearness allowance can also affect total pay.

The commission’s report is expected around May or June 2027.
