Calcutta University Stays Open During Vishwakarma Puja Holiday
Imagine a university that decided to stay open even though the government said everyone should have a day off for a special festival.
That's what happened at Calcutta University.
While other schools took a holiday for Vishwakarma Puja, the university kept its doors open.
The head of the university said that the holiday wasn't in their schedule.
However, student attendance was very low, and the decision highlighted a disagreement between the university and the state government.
Calcutta University (CU) remained open on Vishwakarma Puja, despite the state government declaring a holiday.
The decision contrasted with the closure of Presidency, Jadavpur, and Rabindra Bharati universities.
CU's VC, Santa Datta Dey, stated the holiday was not in the academic calendar.
Attendance was thin, with few classes held, despite postgraduate counselling being held.
The move highlighted an ongoing disagreement between CU and the state government.
