Delhi Closes Metro Stations and Suspends Trains Before Protests

A political group plans to hold a protest in Delhi on Saturday, October 10.

The protest is about claims of vote theft and calls for the chief election commissioner to resign.

To prevent large crowds from moving toward sensitive places, authorities are restricting access at 57 metro stations.

Trains at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations will also stop for ten hours.

Some trains scheduled to arrive during that time will be cancelled.

Delhi's liquor shops will be closed on Friday and Saturday, but licensed bars, clubs and restaurants can still serve liquor.

Other metro stations and metro services are expected to keep running.

People can travel from an unaffected station by bus, taxi or auto, and should check updates before setting out.
