BMC Plans Major Water Infrastructure Upgrades

BMC Plans Major Water Infrastructure Upgrades

The BMC is building a big new water cleaning plant in Bhandup, Mumbai.

It will be able to clean 2,000 million litres of water every day.

This new plant will replace an old one that has been working for 46 years.

The new plant is being built on a 7.4-hectare site.

The BMC is also making sure to plant new trees to make up for the ones that have to be cut down for the project.

The plant is expected to be finished by April 2029.

Additionally, the BMC is constructing an underground tunnel to carry treated water from Dharavi to Bhandup.

This tunnel will help transport 970 million litres of water daily.

The project involves upgrading seven sewage treatment plants to reduce pollution and make water safe for reuse.

The total cost of the project has increased due to delays and a rise in GST.
