Konyak Tribe Revives Forests Through Youth-Led Conservation
In Nagaland, the Konyak tribe is working to protect their forests.
A group of young people started a club called the Minleang Eco Club.
They want to stop hunting animals, especially when they are having babies.
The club also helps plant trees and create gardens.
They learned about conservation from other places and brought these ideas back to their village.
The goal is to make the forest healthy again and give the community new ways to make money.
A movie was even made to show their work!
The Konyak tribe in Nagaland is leading forest conservation efforts through the youth-led Minleang Eco Club.
The club, part of the Biodiversity Management Committee, aims to ban hunting during breeding seasons (April-October).
Initiatives include forest restoration, setting up a nursery, and creating a herbal garden for livelihood generation.
Inspired by conservation models in Arunachal Pradesh, the club was started by Wanmei Konyak in 2015.
A documentary by GreenHub Fellows Bomjar Boje and Chitankumar Thingbaijam highlights the community's conservation efforts.
