Goa Child Rights Body Tells Casinos to Ban Minors
There is a group in Goa whose job is to keep children safe.
This group is called the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The group has told casino operators in Goa that children are not allowed inside.
Casinos are places where adults play gambling games, and the group says such places are not good for kids.
Being around gambling could hurt a child's body, mind, and values.
The group sent a message to the state home department about this rule.
It also asked the police and other officials to check regularly that casinos are following the rule.
Goa has a law called the Goa Children's Act, 2003 that protects children from being used in gambling.
Under that law, making a child gamble or help with gambling is a punishable offence.
The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights directed casino operators to prohibit the entry of minors on their premises.
The directive was sent in a communique to the state home department.
The Commission said exposure of children to gambling environments may adversely affect their physical, mental and moral development.
It asked the home department to direct police and authorities to carry out regular inspections to ensure compliance.
The Commission noted that the Goa Children's Act, 2003 makes inducing a child to gamble or assist in the gambling trade a punishable offence.
