Indian social media users prefer voice messaging, survey finds

A company called FRND asked more than 12,000 people in India how they like to talk to friends online.

Most people said they worry about their privacy and about being judged by people they know.

Because of this, many people feel safer using their voice instead of typing messages.

The survey found that almost 8 out of 10 people express themselves much better in their own mother tongue.

That was even more true for people who speak Telugu and Malayalam.

Most people said they feel most emotionally connected when they hear someone else's voice.

Hindi speakers loved voice messaging the most, with 70 out of 100 preferring it.

Apps like Reddit and Discord work well for city dwellers who speak English, but mother-tongue speakers need something different.

The company behind the survey says people feel more comfortable being themselves when they don't have to show a photo.

They believe people want an online space that is warm and kind, not just useful.
