AI accusations against authors of colour spark publishing bias debate

AI accusations against authors of colour spark publishing bias debate

Some people who write books are being accused of using a computer program called AI to write their stories for them.

Many of the writers getting these accusations are writers of colour.

Because of the accusations, some books were taken off shelves or stopped being sold.

One writer, Jerry Falade, said his book was taken away just because he is Black.

Computers that try to tell if AI wrote something are not always right.

They give a score, but that score does not prove anything by itself.

Some writers have special ways of telling stories, with rhythms and words that are different from usual English styles.

People worry those special styles might get mistaken for computer writing.

We still do not know for sure if the computer tools are being unfair.

Book companies need to make better rules so writers are treated fairly and can defend themselves.
