OVL’s Venezuela oil prospects brighten after US clearance

OVL’s Venezuela oil prospects brighten after US clearance

ONGC Videsh, an Indian energy company, may be able to restart work on its Venezuelan oil projects.

The United States gave the company permission to operate there in July.

OVL is discussing the next steps with Venezuela and its state oil company, PDVSA.

The talks include repairing oil facilities and deciding how to recover about $500 million in unpaid dividends.

OVL owns stakes in two Venezuelan oil fields.

Venezuela has also changed its oil laws to make it easier for private companies to invest.

The new rules cover activities such as oil production, refining, storage and transportation.

Analysts say Venezuela’s oil output is recovering, but major production gains may take several years.
