Army Launches 13,000-Foot Football Tournament in Sikkim 2026
The Indian Army started a big football competition in a mountain village called Thegu in Sikkim.
The game is played at a very high place, 13,000 feet above sea level, which makes it hard for the players.
Thirty‑four teams from different towns in East Sikkim joined the tournament.
The Army wants the event to help young people stay active and to bring soldiers and local people closer together.
The games will finish on August 15, the day India celebrates its Independence Day.
The winning teams will get money and new football kits, and there will be daily awards for the best players.
Indian Army inaugurated the General Sagat Singh High-Altitude Football Tournament 2026 at Thegu, East Sikkim, at 13,000 feet altitude.
34 teams from across East Sikkim, including Gnathang, Changu, Kupup, Zuluk, Namchi, Singtam, and Ranipool, are competing.
The event aims to promote youth engagement, healthy sports culture, and strengthen civil‑military ties.
The tournament runs until August 15, coinciding with India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations.
Winners receive cash prizes and football kits; daily awards recognize outstanding performances.
