Punjab Police Drafting SOP to Handle Army Personnel Cases
The Punjab Police is making new rules to ensure they treat soldiers fairly.
This is because some police officers mistreated a Colonel and his son in the past.
The new rules, made with help from the Army, will tell police how to handle cases involving soldiers, ensuring respect and following the law.
The rules also say that soldiers usually can't be arrested without special permission from the government unless they committed a serious crime.
Punjab Police is creating a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling cases involving Army personnel.
The SOP is being developed with the cooperation of the Army's Western Command headquarters.
The SOP aims to prevent a repeat of the March incident where a Colonel and his son were assaulted by police.
Chandigarh Police has also created its own SOP for handling Army personnel, emphasizing respectful and lawful interactions.
Serving defense personnel cannot be arrested without central government permission unless for serious crimes.
