Jabalpur T-Series Tank Overhaul Facility Gets Foundation Stone

Jabalpur T-Series Tank Overhaul Facility Gets Foundation Stone

India is building a facility in Jabalpur to repair and upgrade Army tanks.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh started the project with a foundation-stone ceremony on August 27, 2026.

The facility is described as working on T-72 and T-90 tanks.

Reports disagree about its cost, giving figures of ₹450 crore and ₹472 crore.

They also give different estimates for how many tanks it will handle.

One report says the facility will handle 80 tanks each year, while another says it will begin with 150 and later reach 230.

Officials separately said the first phase would overhaul 12 T-72 tanks annually.

The facility should reduce the time and expense of transporting tanks for maintenance.

It is also expected to create opportunities for Indian manufacturers, MSMEs and local workers.
