Telangana Seeks Centre's Help on Irrigation and Food Subsidies
The Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister of Telangana, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, wrote letters to the Centre.
He asked for help with several important things.
First, he wants the Centre to quickly solve problems with irrigation projects in Telangana, like the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.
Second, he asked for the release of pending subsidies for rice, totaling ₹1,811 crore.
Third, he requested more storage capacity for paddy and an increase in the paddy procurement target for the upcoming Kharif season.
The minister also mentioned that there are delays in moving rice from government godowns, which is causing problems.
He hopes the Centre will take action to support Telangana's needs.
Telangana's Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy urged the Union Jal Shakti Ministry to resolve pending irrigation projects.
The minister requested the release of ₹1,811 crore in pending subsidies for rice, including ₹1,468 crore for excess mill levy rice and ₹343.27 crore for PMGKAY.
He highlighted operational and financial issues regarding procurement activities for the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season 2025-26.
The minister urged the Centre to enhance storage capacity for paddy and increase the paddy procurement target to 80 LMT for Kharif 2025-26.
He also requested the Union government to allot additional rakes to facilitate the expeditious movement of parboiled rice from FCI godowns in Telangana.
