Nagpur: NMC Issues Promotions, But Hawker Zone Plans Lag
The Nagpur city government is doing two things: They finally promoted some engineers who were waiting for a while.
However, even though they have a plan to create special spots for street vendors, they haven't actually made those spots yet.
This means lots of vendors are selling things without permission, causing problems for people walking on the sidewalks and causing traffic jams.
Even though they have a Town Vending Committee, they are not implementing their approved strategy to resolve this.
Some people want the city to make a better plan to help the vendors and keep the streets clear.
NMC issued long-pending promotion orders to 39 engineers after a delay.
The promotions followed a state government resolution from December 2024.
Despite approvals, NMC has failed to demarcate 43 approved hawking zones.
Only a fraction of Nagpur's estimated 50,000 hawkers have official licenses.
Footpaths and roads are still encroached upon due to a lack of proper planning.
