Suspected militants kill at least one in Manipur village firing

Early on Friday morning, some men with guns attacked a small village called Langka Naga in Manipur, a state in India.

A 34-year-old man named W Chawang was shot in the head and died right away.

Three other people were hurt in the attack.

Some news reports say one person died, while others say a second person named Kawidinang Abonmai also died.

The police say the attackers might be militants, which are armed groups that use violence.

A local group called the Liangmai Naga Council says the Kuki National Front (P), another militant group, was behind the attack.

Because of the attack, the council said shops and offices in areas where Liangmai Naga people live should stay closed for now.

This is happening because there is a big fight between different communities in Manipur.

More than 260 people have been killed and thousands have had to leave their homes since the fighting began in May 2023.

People are asking the government to keep everyone safe and find who did this.
