Netanyahu Criticizes NYC Mayor-Elect Mamdani, Dismisses Arrest Threat
Imagine the leader of one country, Mr. Netanyahu, is going to visit a big city in another country.
The person who will soon be the boss of that city, Mr. Mamdani, had said he wanted Mr. Netanyahu arrested because a big world court thinks he did bad things in a war.
But Mr. Netanyahu said he isn't scared to visit.
He also said that Mr. Mamdani, who is younger, needs to learn more about important things and that his ideas about how to run the economy might not work.
People have said Mr. Mamdani has been unfair to Jewish people because he criticizes the country of Israel a lot.
Mr. Netanyahu said that being unfair to Jewish people can be a sign that bad things will happen to other groups too and can hurt a whole society.
The world court issued arrest papers for Mr. Netanyahu and others because they are accused of war crimes, like not letting people have food.
However, the country where the city is located doesn't agree with the world court and says it can't tell them what to do on their own land.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated he is not afraid of visiting New York City under Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's administration.
Netanyahu criticized Mamdani, calling him an 'uneducated leader' and questioning his understanding of social threats and economic policies.
Mamdani has faced accusations of antisemitism for his criticism of Israeli government policies, including describing actions in Gaza as 'genocide'.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for Netanyahu and others, accusing them of war crimes in Gaza.
The US, not being an ICC signatory, has no jurisdiction within its territory, and federal authorities could obstruct any local attempts to enforce the warrant.
