Spider Evolves in Reverse with Halved Genome

Spider Evolves in Reverse with Halved Genome

Scientists found a special spider on the Canary Islands that has something amazing happening to its DNA.

This spider, called Dysdera tilosensis, has a genome that is only half the size of its cousin that lives on the mainland.

Normally, when animals have smaller populations, their DNA doesn't change much, but this spider is different.

Even with less DNA, it has more genetic diversity.

This is the first time scientists have seen an animal's genome get smaller like this.

They think this spider might be changing the way we understand how evolution works.

The researchers used special tools to compare the DNA of this spider with a similar one from Catalonia and found big differences.

This discovery is important because it shows that evolution can happen in unexpected ways.
