Two Earthquakes Strike Japan, Injuring More Than 40

Japan experienced two earthquakes on the same day.

A magnitude 6.0 quake struck off Hokkaido on Sunday night.

It was 40 kilometers deep, and no tsunami warning was issued.

Earlier, a magnitude 5.9 quake struck near Ibaraki at 2 a.m.

More than 40 people were injured in Tokyo and nearby prefectures after that earlier quake.

Some trains were delayed, slowed, or stopped.

The shaking was felt across northeastern and central Japan.

Japan’s weather agency warned people that similar earthquakes could happen in the next few days.
