India Marks 80th Independence Day with Yuva Shakti Theme

A long time ago, a big country called India was ruled by another country, Britain.

For many years, brave leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru worked to make India free.

On August 15, 1947, India became free, and that day became a special holiday.

Every year, India celebrates Independence Day on August 15.

This year, in 2026, India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day.

On this day, the Prime Minister raises the Indian flag at a big fort called the Red Fort in Delhi.

Then the Prime Minister gives a speech to everyone in the country.

People across India hold cultural programmes to remember the freedom fighters who fought for their country.

This year's theme is about young people, called 'Yuva Shakti', helping India become a developed nation by 2047.

Families can watch the celebrations on TV or online.
