Delhi Police Bust Pitampura Call Centre Targeting US Victims
Delhi Police say they found an illegal call centre in Pitampura, Delhi.
The people there allegedly called victims in the United States.
They pretended to be computer helpers or bank officials.
They falsely said the victims’ computers or bank accounts were in danger.
The victims were then asked to buy gift cards or send cryptocurrency.
Police said the group may have taken about Rs 100 crore.
Officers held 11 people and seized cash, computers, phones and other equipment.
The investigation is still continuing.
Delhi Police’s IFSO unit raided an alleged illegal call centre in Pitampura and held 11 people, including two women.
Police said the syndicate targeted US victims with a tech-support scam claiming their computers or bank accounts were compromised.
Investigators alleged that operators used malware pop-ups, remote-access software, scripted calls and fake bank officials to pressure victims.
Victims were allegedly induced to buy gift cards or transfer cryptocurrency, with police estimating losses at approximately Rs 100 crore.
The raid recovered Rs 41 lakh, 29 laptops, 25 mobile phones, eight routers and a car or SUV; further investigation is underway.
