Anurag Kashyap explains why Bollywood bends easily to power
Anurag Kashyap is a famous Indian filmmaker who makes movies that question how things are.
He recently talked with journalist Janice Sequeira about the movie industry, called Bollywood.
He said that many people in Bollywood agree with powerful leaders.
He does not think they do it on purpose.
He explained that it starts with one small 'yes'.
After you say yes the first time, the door stays open.
Saying yes also brings lots of benefits for those people.
Once they enjoy those benefits, they cannot say no anymore.
Kashyap believes the industry should stand up for what it believes in, like he does.
Anurag Kashyap told Janice Sequeira he does not think anyone in the film industry bends to power willingly.
He said the first 'yes' to the establishment opens a door that stays open forever.
Kashyap argued that the initial yes brings 'huge amounts of benefits' that make refusing later impossible.
He said the film industry, including some of its biggest names, has at times appeared to align with the establishment.
Kashyap, whose films question the status quo, said the industry does not always show the same conviction he does.
