Delhi Amends Court Fees Act for Full Refunds
The Delhi government has changed a law to help people who go to court.
Now, if someone pays court fees and then settles their case either in court or outside, they will get all their money back.
Before, they only got all their money back if the court helped them settle the case.
If they settled it themselves, they only got half back.
This change makes it fair for everyone.
The idea came from a court case where someone said the old rule was unfair.
The government agreed and made this new rule to help people.
Delhi Legislative Assembly passed an amendment to the Court Fees Act, 1870, for full refunds of court fees in all settlements.
Previously, full refunds were only for court-referred ADR settlements, with 50% refunds for private settlements.
The amendment aims to remove discrimination and ensure equal treatment for all litigants.
The proposal was tabled by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh and received approval from the Centre and Lieutenant Governor.
Court fees vary based on the type and value of the litigation, with examples including Rs 100 for Article 226 petitions and Rs 5,000 for election petitions.
