Delhi Court Rejects Lalu Yadav's Plea for Delayed Trial in IRCTC Scam
A judge in Delhi said that a trial for a big corruption case involving Lalu Prasad Yadav, who used to be in charge of the trains, will happen every day.
Lalu Yadav and his wife wanted the trial to happen less often, maybe only once a week.
But the judge said no.
The judge explained that it's the court's job to decide how fast a trial goes, especially when the charges are serious and many people are involved.
The judge also mentioned that higher courts want cases to be finished quickly.
So, the trial will continue as planned, with the court deciding when to schedule the next steps.
A Delhi court rejected a plea by former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi to slow down the day-to-day trial in the IRCTC scam case.
The court emphasized its prerogative to control the pace of the trial, considering the case's gravity and the need for expedition.
Judge Vishal Gogne stated that the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court have directed courts to expedite cases and avoid adjournments.
Charges have been framed against Lalu Prasad Yadav and others under cheating, criminal conspiracy, and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The cross-examination of witnesses was deferred to November 17 upon a request from some accused parties.
