BJP opposes Kerala CM’s promise to Dalit Christians

BJP opposes Kerala CM’s promise to Dalit Christians

V D Satheesan said the government would study whether Dalit Christians should receive reservation benefits.

Dalit Christians say they still face social and economic disadvantages because of caste.

The BJP’s SC Morcha opposes the idea because it fears that existing Scheduled Caste benefits could be reduced.

Some BJP and Sangh Parivar leaders also say conversion should end a person’s claim to Scheduled Caste status.

Supporters of the demand say discrimination can continue even after people change religions.

The disagreement is important because the BJP is trying to gain more support from Kerala’s Christian voters.

The party’s Christian outreach has already faced arguments about religious conversion.

The question is also being studied by a national commission.

That commission’s term currently runs until June 2026.
