Tamil Nadu Bypolls Set October 6, Testing TVK’s Strength
Special elections will take place on October 6 in two Tamil Nadu Assembly seats.
They are Madurantakam and Dharapuram.
The votes will be counted on October 9.
The seats became empty after two AIADMK lawmakers resigned and joined Vijay’s TVK party.
TVK may ask those former lawmakers to contest again, but it has not officially decided.
The elections will show whether TVK can turn its popularity into votes.
Other parties, including the AIADMK, are preparing to compete against it.
Five other empty seats will not have elections yet because court cases are still pending.
The Election Commission scheduled October 6 bypolls in Tamil Nadu’s Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies, with counting on October 9.
Madurantakam and Dharapuram became vacant after AIADMK legislators Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama resigned and joined the TVK.
The Election Commission has not announced polls for five other vacant Tamil Nadu seats because related election cases remain pending.
TVK has not formally named candidates, though reports say Kumaravel and Sathyabama may contest again for the party.
The bypolls could measure TVK’s electoral support, while alliance negotiations and opposition campaign plans remain unsettled.

TVK Opportunity
Uncertain Electoral Test
Political significance
TVK Opportunity
A victory could increase TVK’s Assembly tally, strengthen Vijay’s position in the alliance and build momentum for future elections.
Uncertain Electoral Test
Political visibility may not automatically translate into constituency-level victories, making the bypolls a difficult first test for TVK.
Candidate selection
TVK Opportunity
Reports say former AIADMK legislators Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabhama may contest again on TVK tickets, potentially giving the party locally known candidates.
Uncertain Electoral Test
TVK has not formally announced its candidates, and seat-sharing with Congress and Left parties remains unresolved.
Government impact
TVK Opportunity
The results could serve as an early assessment of the TVK administration and, according to one report, the NR Congress government in Puducherry.
Uncertain Electoral Test
Another report says the bypoll results would not affect the political stability of either government, even if they provide a political performance measure.
